Amo Educational and Relief Services Organization

The Amo Educational and Relief Services Organization (AERSO) is an independent, non governmental, non-profit, non-political, non-partisan and a woman headed local organization established in 2011 by a group of educated Afghan women who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees and returnees. It soon became evident that besides providing basic support (training, awareness rising, and literacy) there was also a lack of educational opportunities for refugee children; To address this need, AERSO initially implemented education and literacy projects for Afghan girls and women. AERSO has also been active in collaborating with
other agencies and women in the establishment of networks and groups.
Since its inception AERSO works to support vulnerable women and children through initiating programs/projects that aims to change women’s living condition and promote children sustain a better life.

Since 2015, AERSO played an active role in arranging gatherings and seminars on women’s works, women’s participation in the peace process, women’s political participation, training and awareness workshops, etc.; especially in support of women’s participation in the peace process
and handling Women demands.
Recently, with the outbreak of COVID-19, AERSO’s voluntary activities to contain the crisis
individually and or within the coordination with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations, has mainly focused on raising awareness of the virus and ways to prevent it, COVID 19 prevention methods, fundraising for the poor who are financially susceptible to the lockdown of the city, overseeing the transparent distribution of government aid, and so on.
The current peace process between the Afghan government and the Taliban and concerns about the presence and participation of women in the current peace process by the Afghan government and the Taliban and concerns about the uncertain future of the role of women in possible and subsequent peace agreements; It has caused a great deal of concern and disbelief among the
people of Afghanistan, especially women.
Therefore, AERSO, as a woman headed Afghan civil society organization that has been led and run by women since its establishment; considers it its duty to partner with other civil society organizations in supporting women’s participation in the peace process and addressing women’s demands, and to participate in all meetings and gatherings of the Afghan Women’s Network and other civil society organizations in this area.

The Amo Educational and Relief Services Organization as a legal entity, registered with the
Ministry of Economy (MoEc) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Ministry of Women’s
Affairs (MOWA) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is the highest authority for women’s affairs
in the country.
